Exterior cleaning for Second Sitting in Melbourne, Derby

Second sitting is one of the newer cafe/ bars in Melbourne, Derby. Its also a particular favourite of me and the Wilkinson Property Pro wife. We were recently asked by them to carry out some exterior cleaning on outside seating area. In the post we will break down how we went about the cleaning and the issues we had to work around. this post will also show you a little more about second sitting.

What exterior cleaning did we do?

We were mainly asked to clean the tables, chairs and decking. I knew there would be a need for deeper cleaning on a first visit and i noticed that the fence surrounding the decking was splashed, likely from heavy rain flicking dirt from the decking. There were also cobwebs to remove, especially on the fence so a good brushing in some areas, in others I used a cleaning solution and soft cloth. The decking had a good brush then cleaned over using the water fed pole eqiupment to brush out any dirt and debris while cleaning down the deck.

Experience breeds flexibility when there's issues

There were several failed attempts to start this job over the course of 2 weeks due to difficulty parking nearby. My original idea meant me pressure washing everything but I had to rethink the plan so i didnt need to rely on parking outside. It just so happened that when I had changed the plan there was now outside parking but I didn't have everything I needed for pressure washing. There's more than 1 way to achieve the same result and I've used diffrerent methods across diffrerent situations so always have backup plans.

Second Sitting is a café and bar on Derby Road in Melbourne, from Claudia and Rory.

A relaxed, unhurried space to eat, drink and stay a little longer than planned. Not fancy. Not trying to be.

The kitchen is led by Rory, who has spent his career cooking in some of the most loved restaurants in the UK, alongside chefs including Marcus Wareing, Angela Hartnett and Jason Atherton. He's taken everything he's learned in those kitchens and left the formality at the door.

Mornings are for proper brunch. Lunch is simple and seasonal, salads, a couple of grilled sandwiches, whatever's good. Thursday to Saturday evenings the kitchen shifts into small plates, meant for sharing and taking your time over. The kind of food that works however you want to eat it.

No large plates section, no three-course menu, no white tablecloths. Just really good food, done well, using produce from Tori and Ben's farm, pastries from Crafted Bakery, and a menu that moves with the seasons.

Alongside the food you'll find a thoughtfully chosen wine list with a strong organic and sustainable focus, draught beers from Attic Brewery in Birmingham, St Martins coffee and specialty drinks.
